For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. In high school, a business ownership class pushed me toward entrepreneurship and financial literacy, and I went on to study both business and education at the University of Florida.
After graduating I looked for classroom roles in Alachua County that fit business and financial literacy, which led me to Kanapaha Middle School. Since then I've taught in a juvenile justice program and now serve in the Peace Corps, teaching financial education in Peru.
Next, I want a secondary classroom where students learn to budget, save, borrow wisely, and start something of their own.
Add what kind of school and courses you want to teach, and what you'd build in your first year.
What I want to build
In my own classroom, I want financial literacy to be hands-on. Students should build a real budget, compare real loan offers, and run a small business project from idea to pitch.
My work at Kanapaha Middle School, with the Peace Corps in Peru, and on Flo-Fly taught me that students learn money skills best by doing them.
